In November 1966, Bill Pead (caller), Terry Coulter and John Webb opened a Square Dance Club in the Elephant & Castle area of London. Most of the members came from the local Hospitals. The name of the club was taken from the year it started (6T6) with the badge made to look like a branding iron.
In 1968 it was decided to move from the Elephant & Castle because of falling numbers, increased rent, and inappropriate surroundings. Richmond Community Centre in Richmond, Surrey, was chosen and the club went from strength to strength with Bill Pead calling. The clubs dance held in 1970 was opened by Michael Palin (of Monty Python fame) and attended by Boyd & Rhoda Gage who were prominent American Round dance cuers. Unfortunately Bill with wife Susan and family moved to Leicestershire because of work commitments. The club continued for some time with Dave Whittington & Brian Wells calling for them until it became obvious that the Community Centre could get a higher rent from another group.
The clubs 2nd move ushered in their most successful period in the clubs history. Old Latymirians Club, Whitton was the venue where the club enjoyed many years. After a successful publicity campaign, the membership grew from 7 dancers plus 1 caller (Brian Wells) to almost 60 members with 5/6 sets dancing regularly each week.
